The First Nations of North America have been cultivating the ground nut for centuries. The annual vines need something to climb each spring, while the perennial tubers are dug any time of year for use as a starchy, nutty root
vegetable. Ground nuts are also nitrogen-fixers and will slowly spread to form a colony if they have the space. If
the tubers are left in the ground, they will get bigger each season.
